What did they wear in the 20s? – Plus Size Flapper Dress Pattern

The best piece of information I have found about how women looked back then was the fashion magazine Bustle. In the 1930s, they had women wearing very plain dresses and they would look good in jeans, a t-shirt and cowboy boots. Their shoes were just like the guys, they didn’t have a fancy shoe industry.

A woman that would come in front of a department store and have a designer name and a lot of money was very attractive at that point. A guy that had money was not, you might say. That’s why he couldn’t attract a lot of women at that time. That’s why they had to look for something cheaper. So if you can wear an outfit, you’re more attractive at that time. They would go to the cleaners and buy something that was cheap which would be very expensive at the time. So all the girls in this time period were looking for something cheaper.

If we look at people who went through the 1920s, most are in a situation called, “What I do, I do because I like it.” This means he worked to support her and also did whatever he had to for the family. He was not, his parents told him, “What did you do? What did you do?” All this would come afterwards.

The girls are not interested in money. They had their own lives. They did not want to marry, get their father to give them a job, get a job that will help them financially, and then come in the next day to find out there are no jobs. How many times have you heard that? That’s how they are. Some of them don’t have any money. They had to work or whatever they had to do. That’s why so many ended up in prostitution. That’s why they couldn’t even take a cab. That’s why they had to have sex.

It is said that the average salary for a woman back then was in the range of a salary that you have today for a white-collar worker. What did that mean?

When you look at the work that we are calling street prostitution, there is always a man in the street. There is always someone that could pick up a prostitute and go for money. That could be anybody. So most women at the time worked as prostitutes because they had to have money for their families. In those days, men had no rights. They were paid whatever they were paid by a boss.

You can’t say that all
