The next generation of the Microsoft Band fitness app will launch on iOS this coming week as part of the Apple WatchKit initiative. The application is designed to be a new and more natural interface for Apple Watch users and will be available for those who opt-in to the beta version. There will be no need to download additional apps to take advantage of WatchKit, and the company claims that the watch interface could be even more intuitive than what users can currently experience on the Watch’s App Store.
“The next generation of Microsoft Band is designed with Apple in mind—it’s designed to serve everyone, both inside and outside of buildings,” writes Microsoft on the official release blog. “The application will be available as a beta program on the App Store later this week. Microsoft Band is still in development and there’s a lot more to come, including new watch faces. To see what’s coming soon, please check the watch app on your iPhone or iPad today to check out the watch face previews.” Users who select a beta app, should they choose, will receive an email when the app launches.
As has been said before, there will be no need for additional apps to take advantage of WatchKit, but Microsoft is promising even more new watch faces that users can’t currently access. “We’ll be adding even more face information on the go, even if you aren’t wearing our Watch. But the more you wear the Apple Watch, the quicker your data sets can be upgraded. For example, some users can’t connect to their phone, but that’s OK; it can take some time to load a new set of numbers for them. With the Apple Watch, we’re not interested in loading a new set of numbers every time you run or exercise, but every three seconds,” Microsoft adds. Apple is not officially supporting Microsoft Band in the Apple Watch app, but the same is true for the Microsoft Band app on the other platforms. There are currently no reports of complications being added for existing complications from the Microsoft
