A New York man is in custody after police said he tried to enter the Grand Hyatt by impersonating a police officer.

“We were very concerned and very concerned for his health,” said Andrew A. Kaczor, the assistant police commissioner of the city’s public safety department.

Authorities said they were alerted to the situation on a complaint from the hotel’s security guard at about 3:15 a.m. Sunday morning.

They said the man made his way to the building that hosts the Hyatt, and appeared to be impersonating a law enforcement officer.

Authorities said he was apprehended after he allegedly tried to enter the hotel lobby, and then entered the building with a gun to his waist. The police chief said there was no evidence that the man was armed when he allegedly entered the hotel.

He is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail.

“His alleged actions were incredibly aggressive and unprofessional. However, we do not have the evidence to determine that all factors indicated that any danger was caused by this person,” Kaczor said.
