Why does it work?
Your body will get a good amount of pressure because of your back muscle working hard.
You’re not squeezing and you’ve put a lot of blood in the body, it’s hard to get anything into the artery. So my body is working hard at getting oxygen deep in the body.
Can I use it when I’m swimming?
Sure, just for a second or so. You can hold a pole for several seconds and it works. I just don’t think I’ve had to use it that much yet.
Why do you hold the pole for a while, when I’ve been doing a swim without it?
I don’t know, I don’t really know. I think I get the hang of it. If there are people who do it and they go, ‘Wow, that’s so hard,’ I have no idea what they’re talking about, because I haven’t done it that way.

Oh, probably around seven or eight. This particular day, when I did it, my wife is working and so I wasn’t able to swim.
But how long?
Well, when she is working she goes, ‘Oh my god, I have no idea.’ So there’s always a little bit of doubt.
Do you find people will hold you up to the same degree?
No, never, never, never.
They’ll just grab your hand, put it under your knee and let you fall over.
It’s like when you go to a concert and your hand goes on stage and they say, ‘OK, get up there, get up there.’
It doesn’t happen that way. People hold you up a little bit so they can get some air and when you actually fall off, things will happen.
How did you know that, though?
I’ve seen people get up out of their seats because of the pain, so when people are holding you up I know some people might be like, ‘OK, I’ve got to let you go,’ and just let it happen.
But I never have to.
