Is there a weight limit for pole dancing?

While pole dancing is a form of pole dancing, a full body weight limit is imposed on it with the full knowledge and approval of all participants. Each person must be wearing a full body weight limit to participate in pole dancing.

How will a Pole Dancing instructor know when a person is too heavy?

For starters, there is no one way to determine if a participant is too heavy.

All instructors use a scale to evaluate each individual to understand which ones are at or near their desired size and, in turn, which ones are the best fit for Pole Dancing. These values include: Body Fat, Height and weight.

For full-body weights, the instructor will place the participant within five percentage points of his/her body weight. For example- if the average person’s weight is 100 pounds but the maximum weight he/she is allowed to be is 180 pounds- that means the student will have to be less than 90 pounds as his/her body weight to be considered to be “too heavy.” The average person in the United States typically has a body weight above 150 pounds and some instructors will have to place their students as low as 85 pounds on average. If a weight is set too low, it can be a “problem” for the student.

Why is pole dancing a dance, not a sport?

Pole Dancing is not a dance sport. At the height of its popularity, many Americans saw pole dancing as an opportunity to challenge themselves, or simply “fit in.”

But there was a huge misconception that Pole Dancing was just an escape route to a better life. The truth is that Pole Dancing is one of the toughest physical workouts one can put on the entire body. Pole Dancing is also a great way in learning self-defense tactics.
