Folk dance is what you’d generally consider the more traditional way of dancing, but social dances tend to be very active, exciting, and creative. There are numerous social dance styles including pajama, salsa, hip-hop, blues, and jazz.
How much do I have to practice with a choreographer to become good at dancing? Every dancer knows you don’t just learn how to dance, you also learn how to practice. For dancing classes, try to make an appointment with at least one choreographer to do a few rounds at a time. Also, it’s a good idea to work with at least one coach, who you can ask for pointers as you practice the moves.
Who do I use on video during my lessons? The dances I teach are the ones I enjoy, so it’s good to have a good dance partner. You don’t need to have a specific partner in mind, you could just join a Facebook group to find a dance partner.
What are my options when it comes to recording? You can use any type of camera, which includes video phone, GoPro, and any other camera you may have on you. It all depends on who’s teaching you, but I would highly recommend getting a professional recording company to get your videos made, because no human can really capture what you are doing in the space. A professional video camera, such as a Panasonic DMC-HX500 or Sony a6000, is something I highly recommend.
What camera do I need? You should bring one of the following: Any camera with a USB cam that’s at least 15 years old, and is fully charged
A digital SLR with at least 1.44 million pixels
A point and shoot compact camera – a camera with a camera that has interchangeable lenses that’s at least 18 inches wide by 16 inches tall (or at least 14 inches by 15 inches when it’s mounted on a tripod)
A smartphone with the latest version of iOS or Android
How do I record with a camera? I would suggest bringing at least one camera with you that you use exclusively. The camera you choose should provide the kind of video you want to record, so I suggest something with a camera that’s designed for dance. Your best option is to either purchase a professional recording or get an additional camera. I would recommend a high quality video phone with a high-resolution camera like a Panasonic DMC-LX100 or a Canon L-Series body that has a 1.4–
